As I walked along the path of life
I came upon two gates;
One was narrow, the other wide --
Just as the Scriptures say.
My arms were filled with self and sin
So the narrow wouldn't do.
But the wider gate had ample room
To allow me and my baggage through.
Yet through the narrow one I saw
Jesus waiting on the other side.
I longed to go and be with Him,
And to my yearning He replied.
"To fit through the narrow gate, child,
You must be willing to put down your load."
So I left my sins by the narrow gate
And passed through to the heavenly road.
When you happen upon these gates yourself
And, like me, you have to choose,
Lay down your burden at the narrow one
And with ease you too can pass through.

Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate
and broad is the way that leads to destruction,
and there are many who go in by it. Because
narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which
leads to life, and there are few who find it.
