Statement of Faith

He looked so sad and lonely
When he came to church that day;
He had never been there before,
And he felt so out of place.

But as he listened to the sermon,
He clung to every word;
His heart was filled with wonder
At the message that he heard.

When the altar call was given,
He rose up from his place,
And gave his heart to Jesus
With a glow upon his face.

And then there was another man
Sitting in a nearby pew,
Who never missed a Sunday,
And was proud of that fact too.

But he didn't hear a single word
The preacher said that day;
His mind was fixed on other things,
He just daydreamed the time away.

And when the altar call was given
He just sat there in his place;
Thinking his heart was right with God,
With a smug look on his face.

The next time you find yourself in church,
Think about the reason why;
And ask yourself this question --
Which one of these am I?
